“My mother always told me I’d love my 30s, and I finally understand what she meant.”

You may know Ashley Greene from that not-so-tiny role as vampire Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga franchise (the five films broke box-office records with a cool $3.3 billion worldwide), and now the actress is stepping into the world of streaming movies with Netflix’s Aftermath, a inspired-by-true-events thriller that debuted last week to a whole bunch of “what to watch this weekend” lists. In between delivering some jump scares, the 34-year-old recently chatted with us about prepping for the heavy role, why skin care is so important to her, and the best beauty advice her mom gave her.

What did you do to prepare for your role in Aftermath?
I am a big believer in lots of preparation prior to shooting, so that process was the same for Aftermath as anything else. The biggest difference in the work that I did for Aftermath, versus other films, was that I had to allow myself to continuously be flooded by nefarious thoughts or scenarios and feed into my exhaustion. Instead of the generally positive outlook I have on life, I was constantly allowing the opposite to flood my brain. I try not to take work home with me, but this one was different, I needed to remind myself of what constant, true fear felt like in order to be on Natalie’s level. There were lots of dark circle– combating eye patches during the filming of Aftermath (thanks, Peter Thomas Roth).

It seems like you are into beauty—what are some of your all-time favorite products?
I am indeed. Once I hit my 30s, I began to immediately see a difference in my skin if I neglected to hydrate it internally and externally, so there is a lot more focus on that. My beauty regime has certainly taken center stage. I love clean beauty brands that have limited but impactful ingredients. OSEA Hyaluronic Acid and Sea Cleanser, Beautycounter Vitamin C and #3 Balancing Oil are daily go-tos. Beautycounter also has a great overnight resurfacing peel I swear by. Ilia is my favorite clean beauty brand, their Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 is my favorite way to get daily SPF defense and a beautiful natural glow. Their cheek and lip products give a wonderful glow as well. Alastin Skincare isn’t a clean brand, but their restorative eye cream is worth it. Hourglass is another that is not a clean brand, but their concealer does incredible things for me.

She has been successful in the fashion world being the face of Mark Cosmetics and appearing on magazine covers such as Marie Claire, and Elle. In addition to acting, Ashely has established herself as an advocate for the rights of children, animals, and women’s health. Together with her husband, Paul Khoury @paulkhoury and sister in law Olivia Khoury, formed a company dedicated to health and wellness products. She currently lives in Los Angeles, CA with her two beloved dogs, Indi and Rosi both adopted.

“I believe that in life everything comes down to focus, vision, and execution of the challenges that are presented to us. Certainly, social media contains negative elements, but we also have the ability and responsibility to use these platforms to raise awareness, spread positive messages, and foster tolerance and peace.”

“It’s amazing to see what social platforms can accomplish when we use them to push for good causes.”

“Social media is not the root of our problems. The problem lies in how we use them. The false representation and messages about the image of women have always been present in the media and have fostered stereotypes that still exist. The difference today is the intensity and immediacy with which we are constantly bombarded with curated images of lifestyles, houses, and perfect bodies that sometimes lead us to have wrong perceptions of reality. Despite this, social media is also a valuable space to shine and convey positive influence and purpose.”

“I am currently starting a company dedicated to providing non-toxic options for menstrual symptom relief and pain management. Our goal is to use social media to educate women about the use of alternative means to traditional drugs and to spread the importance of having a community of strong, healthy and informed women. It’s amazing to see what social platforms can accomplish when we use them to push for good causes. ”

“I understand the importance of platforms and try to use the influence I have to promote the common good. Personally, I try to present myself in a real and balanced way. Sometimes I share my exercise routine, my outlook on life, and charities and causes that I am passionate about like ASPCA and St. Jude. ”

Ashley heeft een interview gedaan met MediaplanetUSA waarin ze praat over het belang van goede financiën.

Actor Ashley Greene says now is the perfect time to think about our financial futures, start building credit, and get smart about saving.

Ashley Greene, an actor best known for the Twilight series, has been proactive about her finances for years, and she says it’s thanks to her father. “My father has always drilled it into my brother and my head that building credit is the best thing you can do for yourself,” Greene said. “We grew up with not a lot of money. Even though we didn’t have much, he had stellar credit.”

Greene got serious about her own finances when she first moved to Los Angeles at 17. “I got a credit card because I wanted an Apple computer and then I didn’t pay my credit card,” she said. “My dad nearly lost his mind.”

Having credit looming over her at a young age taught Greene to think more fiscally. “Until I owed money that I could not pay, I didn’t really grasp the severity of how it holds its control over you,” she said. “After that, I looked at a credit card as something where I control my credit card versus it controlling me.”

Many young people think of a credit card as a fast way to more money, but Greene warns people to avoid that attitude. “We have to have credit cards unfortunately. You have to have them to gain credit, but don’t spend more than you have,” she said. “Use the credit card, build your credit, pay the credit card off, because otherwise, you’re just going to get yourself into this rabbit hole.”

Greene, who shares her household finances with her husband Paul Khoury, takes a proactive approach to managing the couples’ spending. “As brutal as it is, I go over all of our credit card statements, even if it’s a monthly autopay statement,” she said. “I think people don’t want to look at it. It’s that mentality of, ‘If I don’t look at it it’s not there,’ when really what you should be doing is getting ahead of it.”

Now as the United States economy struggles due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is especially important to start thinking about smart budgeting. “You never think it’s going to happen and here it is happening,” she said, “but then I could sit and remember, you were prepared for this.”

The economic shutdown has meant radical changes in spending but changing spending habits could be a chance to re-evaluate spending priorities, according to Greene. “I went to Big Lots the other day, what with the craziness and there being no toilet paper, and I walked into Big Lots and thought, I’m an idiot. Why am I not coming here all the time when all of the things are half the price?” she said.

Greene, whose mother was an insurance broker, believes this is an empowering time to invest in our personal finances, especially for women. “It is a time for women to feel very empowered,” she said. “There’s so much more that I could know, but I feel very empowered by the fact that I am in control of myself and my finances.” Greene has just signed up for an online finance course through Yale, thanks to a friend’s recommendation. “You can do it on your computer. You can learn it at home so you don’t feel embarrassed that you’re starting from the ground floor.”

Greene hopes that other women will encourage each other to learn more about their financial futures. “I would encourage every woman to do it,” she said, “and teach your daughters. I was very lucky to have the dad that I have.”
