Ashley heeft een interview gehad met byrdie.co.uk. Hierbij verscheen bovenstaande outtake van de Rouge Premiere Party Portraits door Michael Tran.

Ashley Greene loves to work out. This fact becomes quite clear several minutes before the actress tells me so herself, right when I step onto the sun-drenched rooftop of West Hollywood’s Rise Nation gym (her fitness haunt of choice) for an event she is hosting with Muscle Milk. The first thing I see? Greene on a yoga mat, cycling through a round of leg lifts… with a huge grin on her face.
Since associating leg lifts with joy is not exactly a familiar sentiment on my end, when we sit down to chat, I’m hoping that at least some of Greene’s fitness mojo rubs off on me. And I’m less than surprised to learn that the actress has plenty of tips and insights on getting motivated—because even she needs an extra push every now and then. From the foods she always stocks in her fridge to her workout-friendly beauty essentials, Greene tells us how she stays in tip-top shape inside the gym and out below.

You’re obviously very into fitness, but are there times when you don’t feel so motivated?
I enjoy fitness on generally a daily basis, but there are times when you kind of want to just burn out and chill out, so I’ve taken breaks before and done more stuff like hiking, rather than high-intensity training. Then again, this Rise Nation class is great, because it’s 30 minutes if you can just get out of bed and get yourself to the gym. I feel like really early morning workouts are always easier because you just get them done and you feel like you’ve kind of conquered the world and you have the rest of your day—rather than waiting until, like, 5 o’clock when you’ve been running around all day and you’re tired and you just want to go home and hang out with your dogs.

Is there a workout or move that you simultaneously love and hate?
There’s this little roller board that I have to put my feet on and you basically get in a pushup position and walk yourself up and down a track and then come back backward. It’s intense. It’s great for your arms and your abs, but it’s pretty tough. I’m huffing and puffing. That, I think, and there’s sled pushes. It’s kind of cool when you feel really powerful, but when I get down to the other end of the track then I all of a sudden realize I can’t breathe, I’m just like, Jeez! It gets you on every level.

What workout have you tried and vowed to never do again?
I feel like I’m pretty open to most stuff. I mean, I have a hard time getting into yoga even though I want to do it, and I always opt to do these higher-intensity training sessions. That’s probably the hardest one for me to do. That and, like, playing softball. I’m not good at it.

Can you give us a peek inside your fridge? What are three things you always keep in there?
I’m kind of obsessed with pickles, so those are always in there. I, ironically enough, actually have always been a fan of Muscle Milk, so that is also always there. It’s kind of just this really quick, easy thing to bring up whenever you don’t have time to make food. And apples. I always have apples.

What’s your go-to healthy breakfast?
This morning I had gluten-free toast with egg whites and spinach. That, or if I’m feeling like I want something sweet, I’ll do the toast with peanut butter and honey on it. It’s very good.

Moving on to beauty, what are some of your gym beauty essentials?
Generally I don’t put on a ton of makeup at the gym. It just doesn’t make sense to me, because I just sweat it off anyway. But I feel like I always need mascara. Mascara is one of the big ones. If I’m feeling a little tired, maybe under-eye concealer.

Is there a product you’ve discovered lately that you really love?
Anastasia makes a brow pencil that’s really fine and great. And then Charlotte Tilbury—her mascara.

Apart from slacking on sun protection, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done in the name of beauty?
Me and my girlfriend were just talking about this—again, I was an idiot when I was a teenager—but I used to lay on the floor and actually use an iron to straighten my hair, because flatirons were really big. Idiotic in every sense.

Did it work?!
Yeah, but it makes it super pin-straight. It’s not cute. It’s horrible for your hair. I’m surprised I didn’t 1.) burn my face or 2.) burn my hair. So that and Sun-In. Straight to orange.
